The Petronas and the mighty malaccan state

Being a fanatic of skysrcapers, I think I decided to go to Malaysia for the sole reason that an oil company named Petronas built the second tallest buildings in the world. I mean, the export growth miracle and the astonishing history, landmarks and all are quite nice...but the towers pretty much made me want to get there. We went there for five days between my last two exams at school. Neverthelss, our visit to the towers was a little disapointing since we were told that visitors are cleared to go only to the little bridge linking the superstructures! The height of the observation point was a mere 170 metres out of 375 metres, where the last accessible floor is!!!

Kuala Lumpur is a very modern city. Malaysia, as a matter of fact, is the most pleasant country in South-East Asia. I would live there if it was to become a powerful financial center some day :-) Everywhere in the country one can find modern cars and clean streets, which is quite a rarity in the region.

Kulaua Lumpur is a fascinating city. It is marked by Islamic architecture with a taste of british straightedness. The parliament building is a prestigious landmark, which has been enhanced by the tallest flagpole on the planet; 150 metres!!! we quickly noticed how Malaysians like to have th e tallest things in every category, or at leats they try. Besides the Petronas and the flagpole, the also have the fifth tallest tower in the world!

Next to the Sultan Abdul Samad Building you can see a perfect example of islamic architecture

We visited a lot of mosque's in central KL. The metro system made it easy to go see every interesting part of the city. Islam is practiced in a very progressive fashion to which even a conservative Bulgarian like me could relate. Their clean shrines and warm unstressed people underline the fact that peace is a predominant value that even some western giants have not begun to understand. we always had to cover the body as much as possible including the scarf for my darling Sandra every time we entered a Mosque.
